Puxi Campus Grades 1-3: Retain Spring with a Paintbrush, Enjoy Music and Sports in Early Summer

May 10, 2022

After the second month of online learning, something different from before was included in the morning read-aloud time for grades 1-3 at the Puxi campus: each classroom had some mysterious guests. The guests joined the meeting secretly and as soon as they showed their faces, the meeting rooms exploded in excitement. Surprised and joyful greetings from every student consumed the meetings.

Who were these mysterious guests? Why were students extremely excited in the morning read-aloud period this week? They were the music, P.E., and art teachers of each class. Since week 11, these teachers have taken turns to enter the morning meetings and contribute during the morning read-aloud period.

Let’s knock on the door of art class to see what these “little artists” are doing? Grade 2 students are admiring Monet’s painting exhibition, and the famous paintings of “Sunrise” and “Water Lilies” showed vividly online. Some classes are getting to know a new painter, Romero Britto, whose paintings always use dynamic colors, popular images, interesting themes, and original signatures. G1 are using various shapes to draw ideal robots. Wow! Look at the bright colors. They use a variety of contrasting color! Art class is so much fun!

“Ding ding dong dong” the little notes knock on the door of the “music classroom.” Some classes are studying the song “I Wanna Say Thank You.” Even across the screen, we can feel the positive energy from their tender singing. “Papa dong dong,” as soon as we walk into another “music classroom,” we hear a rhythmic beating sound. The music teacher is teaching students to play with cups, tables, and hands as instruments. They are learning so fast! After taking this music class, it is highly likely that they will try to beat everything in the house. The other music class is also quite lively. Students’ nimble hands are making a series of movements following the music. It turns out that they are learning finger dancing! The joy that music brings to them is permeated on every smiling face.

Obviously, P.E. lesson is the most dynamic lesson. Students follow the movements and guidance of the P.E. teachers. It feels like they are having a party in front of the screen. Jumping jacks, high leg raises, left and right cross kicks... Every action is done meticulously. Although everyone is out of breath after exercising, we could feel the joy of exercising together from their laughter. In the end, the P.E. teachers also assign some tasks to motivate students to keep fit at home.

Music, P.E., and Art lessons are integral parts of our curriculum, and this gives students the chance to meet their favorite teachers. Not only did the students learn interesting things, but they also exercised and improved their artistic literacy. In the follow-up lessons, music, P.E., and art teachers will bring students more colorful experiences. Students are already looking forward to participating in the classes!
