Middle School Biology Department: Stop the Invasion

May 9, 2022

The main topic of seventh grade science is the organs and organ systems of the human body. Recently, students are studying the immune system. To further enrich and encourage the students’ interest and exploration of this integral system, the science teachers created a “Stop the Invasion” project. This project required students to produce a news report about a pathogen that invaded the body and was ultimately defeated by the immune system.

After working assiduously for a month, the students produced their final products: videos of outstanding quality clearly explaining how the body fights off pathogens. The teachers were impressed with their inquiry. After that, each class selected the best projects and uploaded them to the "LinkedClassroom" platform for all middle school students to observe and vote on. After two weeks of voting, on May 5, the results were released. Helen from 7-2 took first prize, with Patrick 7(7) and Kevin 7(3) being runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

Throughout this activity, the students have further trained and improved in various academic abilities, such as scientific inquiry, writing, short video production and presenting. They are further developing into independent learners. Organizing activities where students engage in mutual evaluation not only lets students of different grades understand the materials of other grades, but also creates a scientific atmosphere and stimulates students' interest in learning.
