Grade 9: Stress Management During Online Learning
In the month of April, Shanghai was still stuck in lockdown. During this unique time, many different forms of stress can form. On April 27th, SHSID teachers decided to allocate the second CAS period to educate students on the factors of stress and how to handle the multiple pressures students might experience.
During this session, a survey was firstly launched to identify the main causes of pressure, and the results ranged from learning to loneliness. Some students didn’t have pressure while some had five or six different sources of stress. Students were also asked to disclose their experiences privately to their homeroom teachers. The teachers then shared solutions to different problems, such as doing physical exercise, playing games, and watching movies. Another unique solution was writing down the factors of stress and tearing the pieces of paper, or just tearing up your to-do list after you’ve finished with everything. These solutions allowed students to take their mind off certain source of their stress. Through this period of sharing, teachers were able to bond with students and empathize with their struggles. In addition, students were able to talk more openly about their experiences and receive help they need. Hopefully, this small session was able to stop students from getting too caught up in their stress.
In this period of uncertainty and ambiguity, doing small things to relieve one's stress is important. Many of the solutions the teachers have offered can be easily performed and are fair ways to combat stress.
