Grade 9 Gateway Course: Summer Plan Suggestions
On March 31, during the 6th period, Ms. Zeng from the college counseling office, Peer adviser Yusuke from 12(1), and Ms. Chen from the TA office gave students advices and tips on how to achieve a fruitful summer vacation.
In the first portion of class, Ms. Zeng introduced the different activities students can engage in such as pre-college classes from different universities. In addition to these activities, many sources of information about these activities were introduced. For example, students learned how to better utilize the search engine to obtain useful information about summer programs, standardized tests, etc. After Ms. Zeng’s talk, Yusuke from 12(1) gave his presentation with his past experiences on summer programs and activities. As a math-inclined student, Yusuke has experienced two math summer programs. In the presentation, he talked about the benefits of attending summer programs; students who attend summer programs can expand their knowledge base in their area of interest, get to know people of similar interest, and gather experience. Furthermore, Yusuke showed the application process of summer programs, and shared the preparations students need to make when applying to one. For the last few minutes of class, Ms. Chen introduced how to plan out a research project. The phases of an effective project and the time needed for each phase were shown, allowing students to better plan out research projects.
