Grade 9 Gateway Lecture: Experiences and Techniques

Due to the spread of coronavirus, students of SHSID are now required to learn through online school. Using platforms such as Blackboard and Tencent Meeting. On March 24th, ninth grader’s usual Gateway courses continued to take place, instead of the usual in person lectures, students entered the Tencent Meeting rooms to listen.

During the 6th period, students from classes 9(7) to 9(12) entered Ms. Christina Economou’s meeting room to listen to her lecture about school participation and note taking tips. Even though online class makes it harder to interact with teacher in person, students were still very enthusiastic about the upcoming presentation.

As they all entered the meeting room, Ms. Economou began her lecture. She mainly spoke to them about the importance of class participation, and how that can increase studying efficiency. In addition, she also taught the students some useful notetaking techniques that could be beneficial in different subjects. After Ms. Economou’s engaging speech ended, students received another speech by a fellow 12th grade student in SHSID. Adelynn Tang from class 12(2) shared with students her personal experiences in high school and provided them with many of her studying tips that she found helpful with her studies.

Overall, both presenters prepared wonderful speeches for the 9th graders to learn from, and the students look forward to attending lectures in person again.
