Lingang Campus Grade 1: The Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition

On the last day of February 2022, G1 students from Lingang Campus stood in line and made their way neatly, for they were going to visit the calligraphy exhibition in the library at ESHS.

Before the official visit, Ms. Li, holding a brush and a scroll, vividly introduced the difference between a “scroll” and a “shaft” and then led the children to read aloud the poem on the scroll, “Seeing Meng Haoran Off at Yellow Crane Tower.” Afterward, the students were excited to observe the calligraphy works of the seniors from ESHS, looking for the Chinese characters and poems they had learned and trying to understand the meanings of the poems with the help of their teachers. The students gradually developed an intuitive understanding of Chinese calligraphic scripts such as the regular, running, and clerical scripts by watching these calligraphy works. Meanwhile, they learned from these brilliant works of their seniors how persistent and earnest they were and had a taste of Chinese calligraphy’s power and unique beauty.
