Primary School Math Department: Interesting Demo Class
In mid-December, Ms. Shen from the 5th-grade math group of the Puxi Campus held a 5th-grade demo class at the Zhongxing Building. The demo class was student-driven, and the teaching design reflected students’ critical thinking and reverse thinking.
The demo class focused on “how to express probability with fractions.” Ms. Shen conducted this exciting class in the form of a math carnival, where students would go through four different stations, each with a game related to probability. They would complete the game with a bit of monster designed by the teacher and compete to see who could win. After the students have experienced the fun math games, the last station requires them to develop their “fair” competition. From learning by doing to learning by doing, the students applied what they had learned by thinking about it. This process exercises their critical thinking skills and develops their creative abilities.
In January, Ms. Shen shared her lesson with the math and grade-level groups, and each teacher could learn from it and do self-reflection. The extradinary result of the demo class could not have been achieved without the teachers’ hard work in preparation and the support and cooperation of the math preparation team. This spirit of teaching and research motivated the teachers to continue working on their lesson planning.
