Puxi Campus Grade 5: Chinese Project “If Memory Can Talk”

December 30, 2021

What does time represent? To Qijun, it’s the delicate smell of osmanthus at her hometown; to Wu Guanzhong, it’s the little boat rowed by his beloved father; to Wang Zengqi, it’s the taste of home-made salted egg yolk. Time invisibly and secretly changed our minds and witnessed our growth.

After learning chapter six in Chinese class, fifth-grade students carried out a conversation with their parents and grandparents across the time. Students interviewed a parent or grandparent at home about their childhood. Students asked questions such as how was your childhood living environment? What did you want to do most when you were little? What was the most significant difficulty and regret you have met? Students also noted their own childhood experiences compared with the elderly and further explained why they want or do not want to exchange childhood with the elderly.

This project deepened communication among students and their family members, and students demonstrated excellent communication skills, oral expression abilities, and critical thinking. We wish students can keep their curiosity, have a careful observation of daily life, and be the recorder of the time.
