Puxi Campus Grade 4: Math Project—My Shopping Trip

December 30, 2021

Mathematics is a subject that builds on the concepts of numbers and science to expand thinking. The key to designing an elementary school math class is to get children’s minds moving and make ideas related to reality.

After studying the unit on money, the fourth graders had an exciting math project. They needed to add new items to their shopping cart and meet different conditions. Some of the conditions required six items to make up $16.50, others required thinking about what the family needed, and others required them to list the items they wanted to buy and figure out the price.

In the “Shopping Trip” study, students identified their needs, made a shopping list, and then selected the most appropriate items based on their preferences and other factors. In the process of solving problems, students experienced the joy of success and gained confidence in learning mathematics.
