Youth Artificial Intelligence Olympic Challenge (YAIOC)

December 21, 2021

Youth Artificial Intelligence Olympic Challenge (YAIOC) was announced in mid-December. In this competition, three groups of AI innovation topics from SHSID participated in the final exhibition, and finally won the awards. YAIOC is sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. Although it is the first time, it is one of the artificial intelligence educational project practices for youth with the largest number of participants, the widest coverage, and the largest influence in Shanghai. The competition aims to promote artificial intelligence from frontier concepts into the real lives of adolescents, guide them from AI technology to AI thinking, and find the young scientists and future talents for Shanghai as a center of science and innovation with global influence. Through the selection by SHISD and their unremitting efforts, three groups have gotten into the finals. Of three, two groups won the third prize, and one group won the second prize. It is worth mentioning that they took use of school's AI labs for their research studies.

In recent years, the AI courses and innovative practices at SHSID provide students with a variety of opportunities to explore AI studies. YAIOC is one of them. It will motivate more students to participate in the research of AI topics, develop their information skills needed to adapt to the future information age, and cultivate their digital learning and innovation literacy. Through these series of competitions, they will have a better development and gain more opportunities in the future.
