High School Biology Department: Open Class - "Cellular Respiration"
On the morning of December 14th, Ms. Gu Ying had an open class on "Cellular Respiration" in Room 103 of Zhentao Building, which attracted many teachers from the Biology Department to watch and learn.
Different from non-living substances, living organisms have complex and diverse life activities, and the energy provided by cellular respiration is the basis for all these activities. At the same time, this biochemical process involves multiple steps that occur in more than one cell site, and, thus, is regarded as a "key point" of the high-school biology teaching. During the teaching process, Ms. Gu first led the students to review the key concepts in the first two parts of cellular respiration. Subsequently, Ms. Gu vividly demonstrated the electron transport process of cellular respiration as well as the conversion of substances through a combination of animation and illustrations. Finally, by summing up and calculating the amount of net products generated and comparing the cellular respiration in different groups of organisms, the students gradually gained a comprehensive grasp of the abstract and complex biochemical reaction. Ms. Gu’s in-depth explanations, abundant teaching methods, ingenious question setting, and well-organized teaching schedule benefited all the teachers and students present a lot.
