Highlight Activities of the Chemistry Competition Club
The Chemistry Competition Club is a club dedicated to chemistry competition preparation. Here, students can explore their interests in chemistry and learn about more advanced contents of chemistry. The club holds two sessions per week to teach members chemistry concepts and provide practice questions for students to get familiar with competition questions.
This semester, the club has been focusing extensively on teaching topics commonly seen in chemistry competitions, including thermodynamics, acids and bases, and chemical equilibrium. Students are provided with preview questions and materials before club sessions, and sessions are held to further organize the information to make sure they are clear and understandable. With the entrance of 9th graders beside 10th graders, the club has opened new sessions targeting 9th graders, providing more basic content to help the 9th graders better understand competition content. The club holds many interactive practices through the quiz website Kahoot. In addition, quizzes are provided for students to get more familiar with the content talked about in sessions.
The Chemistry Competition Club’s focus for this semester is to get students from different grades familiar with chemistry concepts commonly appearing in competitions, focusing extensively on students being able to understand the concepts clearly. In the next semester, the club will focus more on competition question practice to ensure that students can apply their knowledge to competition questions.
