High School Teachers and Students Watch Livestreaming of "Tiangong Class"

December 13, 2021

Once upon a time, traveling in space was an unattainable dream for generations, dreaming of one day walking on the top of the sky over the horizon. Now, we have the opportunity to witness this feat with our own eyes. On the afternoon of December 9th, in the lecture hall of Zhentao Building, the students and teachers got together to watch this fascinating scene. The "Tiangong Class", as China’s first space science education brand, was conducted by three astronauts, Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and Ye Guangfu, in the core module of the Chinese space station Shenzhou 13 spacecraft. This lecture adopted the interactive communication between Earth and space and is livestreamed all over the world.

The three astronauts first introduced the current environment of the space station and showed each space room where they live and work in-orbit, such as the health area, sleeping area, kitchen area, exercise area, etc. Then, the astronauts delivered a series of experiments in the microgravity environment: a cytological experiment, buoyancy disappearance experiment, water membrane tension experiment, water balloon optical experiment, effervescent tablets experiment, liquid surface tension experiment, and so on. The students and teachers of SHSID watched the whole live-stream of the "Tiangong Class" with great interest. The mysterious phenomenon of the surface tension of water in space aroused students' keen curiosity. They discussed several space experiments with their physics teachers immediately following the broadcast. Afterwards, the students began working on the space knowledge activity. They learned about the history of space development in the nation and in the world, as well as the heroes’ immergence in the space industry, and applauded the great achievements made by China's space industry pioneers in the past few decades.

The frontier science education is one of the platforms set up by SHSID. Throughout this activity, the students saw a series of space experiments and the strengthening of China's space science and technology. Among these students, we may have future space workers. We believe that the footsteps of chasing dreams will never stop, and we wish for our students to go further down the road of exploring science!
