Grade 9 Assembly: Chinese Classical Dancing

December 10, 2021

On December 7th, in the Zhentao lecture hall, students from ninth grade all gathered looking forward to listening to that week’s assembly. Different from previous assembly lectures this semester, this time, the topic wasn’t focused on study experiences, but on an unfamiliar type of hobby. Chloe and Katherine from 9(6) introduced Chinese classical dancing and shared their own experiences of learning it.

As the speech started, Katherine gave a short introduction on the origins of Chinese classical dancing to let the students build a fundamental understanding of this type of dance. Following the introduction, Chloe then explained the unique style of Chinese classical dancing in Chinese. After the students got a simple understanding about Chinese classical dancing and its style, Katherine began to introduce her own experiences. She started learning dance from a very young age and performed a lot on stage while in primary school. Soon, she gained passion of classical dancing and felt joy when dancing, compared to the beginning when she had been forced to practice. Afterwards, she entered the classical dance club in Grade 6 where she improved her dancing skills greatly.

Next, Chloe shared her experiences on learning classical dances as well. She said that the only hobby that she hadn’t given up and is still practicing now is Chinese classical dancing because it is something that she is passionate about and is able to persist on. Throughout the last eight years, she has been in the school’s classical dance club and has participated in a lot of performances and competitions. She explained the story of how she moved her interest away from classical dance and regained it afterward. At the end of the speech, Chloe and Katherine said that, through their experiences, they wanted to tell all the students that the hobbies they can persist on now are definitely things that they should feel passionate about and/or have a huge interest in, so we all should keep persisting on these to become better versions of ourselves.
