December 7, 2021

To promote parent-school cooperation and enrich the content of school education, thanks to different professional resources from parents, the second grade of SHSID Pudong Campus has invited two special guests to join the classes, teaching students different cultures and knowledge around the world during the last two weeks.

One special guest was Ms. Tan from Shanghai Art and Design Academy, who was invited by Esther’s mom from class 2(1). She gave us a wonderful traditional Chinese paper-cutting lesson. During this lesson, Ms. Tan first introduced the history of Chinese paper-cutting and showed us many examples that are close to our life, such as window grilles, door decorations, etc., as well as the paper-cut hollow art that appears in many modern advertisements. Then, Ms. Tan demonstrated how to make a vivid paper panda only by using a pair of scissors and flipping the paper up and down. The children were all excited to try for themselves! In the end, different kinds of cute pandas were born under the teacher’s guidance. Everyone enjoyed this lesson and experienced the charm of Chinese paper-cutting art!

The other special guest was Carlos’ dad from class2(2), who is a designer of the China Antarctic Research Station. He shared his various experiences gained from Antarctic scientific expeditions, leading the students to the southernmost part of the earth, and he uncovered the mystery of the pure land of Antarctica for them. In his lesson, the children had a comprehensive understanding of the national scientific expedition team, the scientific expedition ship “Snow Dragon,” and the Antarctic landscape. In addition, each student received a special souvenir from Carlos’ father. During this wonderful and interesting class, the children gained a wealth of scientific geography knowledge, which also inspired a great enthusiasm for exploring the natural world!

Through these parent-school cooperative activities, students have not only gained knowledge and broadened their horizons, but also greatly improved their enthusiasm for learning. Everyone said these classes were really interesting!
