Pudong Campus: Reading Month
Books impact us by providing knowledge. Aiming at cultivating students’ reading habits and creating a perfect reading atmosphere, a series of reading-centered activities have been running in November at the Pudong campus.
Grade one teachers organized an interesting Tongue Twister Competition for first graders. There was also a Reading Marathon Challenge which charged for 10,000 minutes to reach the goal. These activities are aimed at motivating first-grade students to read and develop good reading habits.
Grade two students had a Reading Buffet activity during Reading Month. They brought their books to school which they would like to share with others and wrote down their favorite books on the reading “menu.” This activity creates a new reading experience for second-grade students.
Grade three organized a Book Tasting activity. Students had the experience to expose themselves to different kinds of books. They’ve also been invited to grade-three Reading Café during Personal Growth Class on November 16.
Grade four students were engaged in a Reading Buddy activity with grade two students. On the day of Thanksgiving, fourth graders learned a poem and they served as teachers to help second graders practice on the poem. Under effective guidance, second-grade students embraced the charm of poems and books.
Fifth graders had a Reading Camp-out activity during Reading Month. Students made their own camps with blankets and cushions brought from home. Reading in these tiny tents with their best friends was an amazing reading experience. We hope that our students understand that reading brings great fun and it can be anytime and anywhere if they want to.
Reading a million books, and traveling a million miles. Reading Month ignites students’ excitement about reading. We hope that these reading activities make reading come alive for our students and that they will enjoy reading all the time.
