Grade 11: Micro-Film Award Ceremony
On November 19th, juniors gathered at Xianmian Building Annex Auditorium for the weekly Friday morning assembly. Instead of having a student speak about their experiences on something like usual, this time’s assembly was the award ceremony for the juniors’ micro-film making project. Among these microfilms, each film revolved around a main theme and allowed the audience to learn a specific lesson after watching it. All the themes were somewhat related to overcoming difficulties with a positive outlook on life, so the general energy of the microfilms was very uplifting and inspiring. Unlike the usual constrained homework assignments students have to complete, this filmmaking project truly allowed some students to stretch their creative and artistic potentials and visions. Even though the themes assigned to the classes were somewhat similar to one another, each class had their own unique interpretation as to what that theme meant to them and successfully expressed their ideas in the form of film.
Many students who starred in their class’s films also displayed unexpectedly exceptional acting skills. There were also many talented directors and editors who greatly contributed to this project. This project also allowed students to get familiarized with their new classmates in this new school year where many changed to different homerooms. Therefore, this was a very good opportunity for people who are in the same homeroom to develop their team spirits. Many films have funny bloopers at the end, displaying warm and hearty moments that the students shared during the process of making these films.
11(1) and 11(6) received first prize. 11(3), 11(4) and 11(5) received second prize. 11(2), 11(7), 11(8), 11(9) and 11(10) received third prize. Though the results were elected based on students’ votes, every film spoke about something that the peers can all relate to and all of them were impactful.
