Grade 6: Connect-Five Competition
Connect Five is one of the most popular games among students. Recently, grade 6 held a Connect Five competition, and all 6th graders participated in this game. The first round of the match was held in the youth development class on November 11 by homeroom class.
Everyone drew lots to determine their order and opponents. Pairs of two students competed against each other. The first to connect five pieces of the same color horizontally, vertically, or diagonally would win the game. During the game, the players stared at the chessboard. Other students watched around them, holding their breath. Whenever a student won, applause broke out in the classroom to cheer for the victory. Forty minutes later, the class champion was announced. They participated in the second round—the grade competition—took place during the lunch break the next day.
Twelve class champions gathered together during the semi-finals on November 12. The time for the second round competition was obviously prolonged because all the players were the best from each class. The most impressive match was between Robert from 6(7) and Ching Sui from 6(11). Both of them are skilled chess players. Their match went on until the board was littered with black and white pieces, none of them with more than four in a row. It lasted for more than 20 minutes. At the end, Ching Sui made a mistake, and Robert attacked with a setup that caused a spectacular defeat. So Robert, Richard from 6-9 and Eric from 6-12 entered the finals.
During the lunch break on November 16, the finals attracted many students. Everyone was eager to know who would be the grade champion. The results of the finals were unpredictable, for all these three players were very powerful. In the first round, all of them won in one match and lost one, so they continued to another round. This time, Robert seized the opportunity to beat Richard and Eric. He won in both matches and became the champion of the grade. All the spectators applauded their wonderful performance. This thrilling game finally came to an end.
In this Connect Five competition, the sixth graders not only participated in the game actively, but also had a chance to play with their friends during lunch. They were very happy and had lots of fun in the game and competition. It was a good memory for their campus life. All the class champions and the players in finals won various Rubik’s cube toys as prizes. Playing the Rubik’s cube has also become a new popular game in grade 6. The students will have a new way to make friends by playing with cubes in the future.
