Grade 7: Home School Cooperation to Enlighten the Future—Career Day Lectures
Have youdreamed of your possible career in the future? For most seventh graders, the critical step to becoming independent learners is establishinglong-term goals and working towards them. Nine parents and guests from grade seven were invited to the youth development class on November 18. They shared their career experiences to inspire students to find their interests andmake career-centered goals for the future.
The careers of the parents and guests invited to this event involve all walks of life. Starting from their rich knowledge and practical experience, they had deep face-to-face communication with the students. Among them, the supervisor of a pharmaceutical enterprise explained the history of insulin and the functions of various departments of pharmaceutical enterprises. The business expert introduced the steps in merger and acquisition. The senior advertiser shared the process of advertisement shooting.Theexperton Chinese Gardeningshowed the students the beauty and connotation of Chinese classical architecture;the university admissions officerdiscussed with studentshow to choose a majorand how to prepare for their future career;the experienced professional fromthe radio and television industrytoldstudentsexcitingstorieson big stages and behind the scenes and gave quite a few tips on how to deal with challengs from work. The senior fund manager spoke about the importance of “money consciousness” and how to realize “compound interest in life.”
Each guest either shared their stories of deciding which career to pursue, their routine and highlights of work, or the stages in their career development. At the same time, they enjoyed answering questions students asked, such as what qualities and majors students need if they want to pursue a particular career. By participating in these lectures, the students broadened their horizons and inspired their interests. More importantly, they realized the importance of cherishing the present time and planning for the future.
The career sharings of parents and guests are of great significance to help students better understand themselves, sort out the relationship among learning, careers, and life goals, and become more independent learners. Through this inspiring career day event, students can better ground themselves in the present to prepare for the future.
