Grade 9: Rope-Jumping Competition
On November 10, 2021, during the pleasant, windy afternoon of the day’s last CAS class, grade-9 students gathered at the front of Zhentao Building to participate in the long-rope competition. Every class picked out at least 12 enthusiastic participants and practiced for around 30 minutes before the actual competition began.
Every class had one minute for each round of competition, and the judge would count how many jumps the class as a whole could achieve. Before the competition, students were trying extra hard to make consecutive jumps without stopping; each and every member of the class collaborated to try and obtain the best results. The students’ actions reflected the support they have for their homerooms and the sportsmanship of each individual.
Looking around, preparations for the final competition were intense. Two students were picked to be the rope swingers, and as their classmates jumped, they counted out loud the number of jumps and tried many different strategies to regulate the swinging speed. As for the jumpers, they gathered in one straight line behind the rope; the first jumper would wait until the rope was at a perfect height and then jumped in while signaling the next teammate to follow.
Finally, it was time for the actual competition where many classes gathered around to witness one homeroom participate to the best of their ability. Excited cheering and words of congratulations could be heard across the area. Despite the short amount of time students had been given, they still enjoyed themselves throughout the CAS period of rope skipping. This activity gave students the opportunity to collaborate with their classmates and show valuable sportsmanship during the competition. Moreover, it was a memorable activity to end the day with.
