Job Shadow: Half-Day Experience Activity of the Legal Profession

On the afternoon of November 5, 2021, more than 30 high-school students from SHSID, led by Ms. Zhang Li, visited Zhihe Partners for a half-day experience activity of the legal profession.

At the beginning of the event, the firm’s managing partner, Mr. Lu, gave a speech with the topic of "Law, Judicial Study, and the Community of Legal Professionals" to the students, and introduced the basic structure of the legal discipline and the daily work of lawyers. Mr. Lu's sharing was candid. In addition to introducing the many highlights of a lawyer's work, he reminded the students to also see the boring and tough side of the legal profession, with the aim to break some myths about the legal profession from popular culture. He encouraged students not to blindly follow the trend, but to make the decision whether to join the legal professional community or not, all based on their true understanding of themselves and their interests. And in doing so, they shall never lose their focus on the study of humanity, their own personal development, and being able to fully experiment with a variety of things.

Then, the students visited various areas of the firm under the guidance of the lawyers, including busy office areas, quiet meeting rooms, and fitness areas with unique scenery, etc. After returning to the activity venue, Mr. Lu's colleague, Ms. Gong, conducted a lively case analysis and discussion with the students on a civil tort case and a simulated crime scenario, combining common sense of life with basic legal theory, which benefited everyone a lot. In the final question-and-answer session, the students enthusiastically asked questions, such as the qualification requirements for lawyers and the preparations that can be done in high school. After Mr. Lu answered every question of the students patiently and wittily, the event concluded successfully.

As part of the high-school career-experience activities of SHSID, this activity allows students interested in the legal profession to obtain first-hand information and experience in the front line of lawyers’ practice. At the same time, it is also an enlightening legal education experience. We hope that students can continue to consolidate their academic foundations in the school, use the series of career-experience opportunities provided by the school to understand themselves more fully, and find the passion and love in which they are willing to put consistent hard work.
