2030 Zhentao Program: Seminar on Interdisciplinary Project Design

October 29, 2021

On the afternoon of October 27th, there was a seminar hold among teachers joining the 2030 Zhentao Program who teach various subjects such as Economics, Chinese, and History. This seminar was about interdisciplinary project design. It was hosted by the head of Social Sciences Department Ms. Zhang Li. Ms. Li Yunuo, the head of History and Geography Department and Ms. Shen Chenli, the head of English and World Languages Department also participated in the seminar.

First of all, Ms. Zhang Li introduced the China Thinks Big (CTB) competition and its form, judging criteria and practical significance of interdisciplinary research in it. She invited Ms. Ye Zhen, who had been to the competition this year, to introduce the procedure of the global finals. She listed out some of the topics selected by the students and emphasized what the coaches need to pay attention to in the early stage of preparation. As a very challenging competition, CTB takes "innovation" and "feasibility" as the main evaluation criteria, and encourages students to select topics, explore, and conduct field investigations in a teamwork manner, and present the results from their practice. Such requirements and evaluation criteria provide inspiration to the designing of interdisciplinary projects, as most of the research topics inevitably spans multiple different academic fields. Later on, the teachers sat around and started a brainstorm. They shared the projects carried out in their classes and proposed some possible interdisciplinary projects in the future. This seminar was just a start, and it brought great inspiration for the teachers on the design of interdisciplinary projects in the future.
