Middle School Parents Workshop: How to Communicate Effectively with Children Entering the Adolescent World
On the afternoon of October 27th, the first parents’ workshop of this semester was successfully held at the reading room 101 of Zhongxing Building. We invited Dr. Guo Feng (formerly the regional director of ELG Hangzhou, and now the psychological director of Shanghai Manlang Psychological Clinic) as the guest speaker of the lecture to give in-depth and detailed sharing for the parents.
Mr. Guo combined theory with practice, starting from the child’s physiological changes during adolescence, systematically analyzed the causes behind the problems, and provided reasonable coping strategies.
Intervention is based on understanding.
Help starts from the relationship.
Work together to complete the plan.
Growth requires letting go.
In a word, intervention and help can only be achieved on the basis of establishing a good parent-child relationship. In the questioning session, parents raised the typical doubts about how to control their emotions, how to treat their children’s material requirements, and so on. Mr. Guo’s explanation was insightful, and we found that behind many of the problems, children are actually sending out signals for help, and their needs need to be understood and respected.
The audience nodded frequently, and the online live broadcast also had a heated discussion. It’s never an easy job to be a parent, however it’s the calling of looking inward and self-fulfillment. The goal of our parents’ workshop is to use scientific methods to help parents get rid of anxiety and grow up with their children.
