High School Biology Department: Project Showcase - “Evolution Board Game”
On October 18th, the 11th-grade students had an enjoyable biology course project showcase activity in the recording classroom of Zhentao Building. The content of this project was to design a board game based on the evolutionary theories. The students intelligently integrated the evolutionary concepts of adaptation, natural selection, reproductive isolation, speciation, and mutation into their games, and made exquisite game background boards as well as demonstration materials so that other students could obtain the best gaming experience while gaining related knowledge. Some students used aeroplane chess as a model and put evolutionary knowledge to test into flying obstacles. If you want to reach the destination, you must have all the concepts in your mind. Some students were inspired by Monopoly game and set different groups of organisms, combined with different habitats, and a series of emergencies such as mutation or a variety of scenarios that simulate the ever-changing natural environments... Each demonstration received warm applause from other students. After the demonstrations, the students also actively participated in other groups, experiencing the journeys of evolution games.
By combining evolution with game-design, students were enabled to design and manipulate the power of evolution, which not only helps students thoroughly grasp the abstract academic concept of evolution, but also encourages students to flexibly associate natural phenomena with the underlying laws.
