G6-8 Fire Drill—Build Safety Awareness from Details, Keep a Safe Learning Environment.
Safety has always been the most important issue for schools and parents. To further enhance the students’ awareness of fire safety and ensure the orderly and safe evacuation in case of fire, students and teachers of grades 6-8 conducted a fire drill in the youth development class on September 30.
During the preparation for the fire drill, homeroom teachers introduced the evacuation procedures and the meaning of the three-color cards to the students. (a green card means that everyone is here and safe; a yellow card means that there are students who are not in danger but are injured; a red card means that there are missing persons or a life-threatening emergency).
At 2: 30 p.m., the fire alarm sounded, and the fire drill officially began. Everyone covered their mouths and noses, bent down, quietly and quickly left the classrooms. In an orderly manner, they left the teaching building according to the fire escape route and met their class at the designated place. After counting the number of students in their class, homeroom teachers reported the situation through displaying three-color cards and confirmed that all the students arrived at the assembly place safely.When the fire drill was complete,the students returned to their classes in an orderly manner. The homeroom teachers and the students reviewed the whole evacuation process and once again stressed the precautions and importance of safe escape.
The fire drill provided a vivid fire safety lesson for the students. They had more practical experience in the correct method of emergency evacuation of fire accidents and enhanced their awareness of fire safety.
This semester, the students of grades 6-8 have entered the new teaching buildings. While experiencing the learning environment full of modern technology, there are also many safety problems to pay attention to. Teachers on duty patrol the corridors, classrooms, and school bus parking lot at recess,during lunch, and after school every day. The teachers attached great importance to the safety education for the students. At the beginning of this semester, they specially used a youth development class to emphasize the importance of campus safety. In class, the students’ understanding and attention to campus security were further strengthened through campus safety situational drama performances, campus safety knowledge Q & A,andcampus safetyscavenger hunt games. Safety is no trivial matter, needing both prevention and contingencies. We believe that with the joint efforts of teachers and students, we can create a safer and more inclusive learning environment.
