Foreign Teachers Professional Development

August 27, 2021

All foreign teachers returning to the school were excited to start their 2021-2022 school year with professional-development (PD) sessions on Aug.20th and 21st.

Primary and Middle School PD section started with a session with engage-ELG, a Shanghai-based organization to better support students with varying needs. Teachers learned about various strategies and support for those with mental health needs, as well as ways to better communicate with staff and parents about students that need additional support.

High School PD section covered: Comment Writing, Film in the Classroom, the Blended Learning, and Plagiarism Prevention and Policy. These sessions provided teachers with enough information to get them thinking on how to best incorporate technology and film into the classroom and how to get students properly citing, quoting, and paraphrasing without jeopardizing academic integrity.

Throughout the remaining sessions, teachers practiced new teaching strategies including lesson planning, higher order thinking, and blended learning. Teachers also met with department groups to build on learning goals as well as with the instructional coach and PD coordinator to look at new initiatives for the year.

These sessions all help get foreign teachers reacquainted with the school and get back to being on "work mode" after the glorious summer break. Welcome back, teachers, and have a wonderful start to the semester and year.
