Grade 8: Music Charity Group Online Charity Concert
On the night of May 13th, 2021, the MCG service-learning group hosted its second online charity concert. The MCG SL group aims to spread awareness of music and use music to help those in need. Over the past year, they have performed at school events, around the campus, and even outside of school. The passionate members of MCG have put in a lot of effort and dedication to make it an effective concert and give audience members a wonderful night.
Long before the day of the concert, all students from grades 6-8 had received the notice about the form, date, and performances during this charity event. We were excited to see a program decorated with a dark green summer vibe as well as a poster consisting of the QR code about the online classroom that the live concert would take place. There was also a WeChat shop accompanying the notice, consisting of information about the charity donations. The effort MCG members contributed to organizing this event was significant, given the fact that all instructions, purposes, and steps were clearly articulated.
This time, just like before, the charity concert is hosted on a platform named ClassIn, a type of online classroom that enables many participants to view the live broadcast. Due to the pandemic, it is unfortunate that students are unable to perform on the SHSID stage. However, the form of video performances also allowed us to include more innovative ideas.
At 7:30 PM, the concert officially began. As soon as I entered the live broadcasting room, the faces of two familiar classmates flashed before my eyes. They were the host of tonight, experienced speakers who have attended multiple art festivals and talent shows. With the annunciation of the opening speech, we sit back and relax to enjoy the marvelous night in the accompaniment of music.
The performances included during this online event were various, yet each entertaining and unique. From Mozart to Schubert, from singing to dancing, each performance included the performer’s interpretation of the piece and his emotions. There were delightful Japanese cartoon melodies, but also dignified Baroque tunes. Each performer came up with the most creative recitals to bring us an inspiring time. There were even commercial breaks in between, where MCG helped other SL groups spread awareness of their events through this concert. This charity concert not only brought us classical music pieces but also inspired us to help those in need in every way we can.
With the ending of the last note, it is unfortunate that the music stops tonight. However, the charity continues to transpire all around the world and motivate every one of our hearts. This online charity concert organized by students was very successful, and we are grateful for all the help teachers, parents, and students have brought us. Graduation year marks the end of Middle School, but music will unite us together no matter where we go. Let us enjoy the last few weeks of the semester and celebrate our best memories in joy!
