Grade 7: English Competition "How Far Is The Future?"
To show the beauty of language and the independence of mind, an English Speech Competition was held in the lecture hall of auditorium on the afternoon of April 29th. The speakers talked about the question: can science and science fiction predict the future?
Starting with the speech given by Tina from 7(7), she led us investigating the true identity of Jules Verne, the father of science fiction. He had made predictions throughout his writings in the nineteenth century. Was he a time-traveling alien who made the “prediction”, and made mistakes just to cover it up? Or was he just a regular person who made mistakes like the rest of us? Jenny from 7(3) talked about the insightful prediction of Jules Verne and the limitations of his ideas. Jennifer from 7(3) introduced an innovative technology called stem cell research, which will help disabled patients get rid of the prejudicial treatment. At last, Jerry from 7(3) gave us a brilliant speech, talking about the future of video game technology.
In the end, the winners of the speech contest came to the stage to receive the awards, pushing the atmosphere in the auditorium to a climax. The students demonstrated their abilities and specialties in this competition and gained the motivation to continue to explore.
