Social Sciences Department: Accounting Course – Financial-Report Analysis
On April 1st and April 2nd, 2021, students from Ms. Chen’s and Mr. O’Rourke’s accounting classes gathered at the lecture hall of Zhentao Building and gave presentations on their financial-reporting-and-analysis project. The students had earlier been divided into groups of 3-5, with each group having previously selected a company for analyzing its financial statements and ratios in its 10K report from recent years.
Before their presentations, the students had done thorough analysis on their company’s reports and had submitted their reports already; therefore, the content of their presentations was all very well-prepared. To simulate a professional financial-analysis presentation, the teachers required that all students dress formally to create a more suitable environment. The presentation task not only allows the students to practice financial accounting-analytical skills, but also allows them to practice their presentations skills. The students all presented their work confidently and fluently. After two periods, all project groups presented their financial-report analysis and had learned a lot from other groups, especially on the characteristics of diverse industries and the application of accounting knowledge.
