Puxi Campus G4-5: Online Parent Meeting
Puxi campus grades 4 and 5 held online parent meetings on March 30th and April 1st, respectively. This semester is a critical time for these grades 4&5 students. Grade four students will enter the highest grade in primary school, while grade five students will move up to middle school. The parent meeting not only communicated the daily learning and teaching routine but also conveyed to parents the emotional and academic preparation students need for the next school year.
Based on different grade conditions, grade four chose to hold the meeting by homeroom teachers individually, while grade five held the meeting for the whole grade. The parent meeting started with a speech from grade leader Ms. Lu and grade four homeroom teachers, introducing the new changes for this semester, such as cross-grade cooperation, new lunch clubs, chatroom, community service, etc. Afterward, teachers introduced the integration of mental health education with a focus on weekly personal growth classes where teachers used engaging activities, multi-media, and real-life application to help students cultivate abilities to handle issues and problems in their daily lives. Meanwhile, grade four homeroom teachers had the opportunity to introduce more specific situations involving each homeroom.
Later, subject teachers introduced the schedule of the semester and how to prepare the students for the next school year in order to have a better transition to higher grades. Subject teachers also introduced the key activities and how these activities are integrated with cultivating students’ learning interest, improving subject skills, and applying cross-subject application skills.
At the end of the grade five parents meeting, Ms. Chris, the director of grade four and five in the SHSID Puxi campus communicated with the parents about the education revolution and students' social-emotional development. From Ms. Chris’s perspective, under a fast-changing, uncertain, and complex social environment, home education, as well as school education, should never forget where and why we started and focus on cultivating lifelong abilities. Ms. Chris hopes that families can maintain a steady heart and not push too hard so that students can have a better improvement on mental health, morality, and core abilities.
As an important part of home-school communication, the parent meeting communicated the school subject teaching, mental health education, and moral education roundly and concretely, building a positive bridge for family school cooperation.
