Pudong Campus: The Meaningful Qingming Festival Activities
This Sunday, April 4th, is the traditional Chinese Festival Qingming. To understand the history oftheQingmingfestival and experience Chinese culture, the studentsattheSHSID Pudong campus explored the Festival’s originsand changesin history withguidancefromteachersduringtheP&B class. They watched an interesting video about the customs of Qingming, as well. After the video, students shared stories about how the people in their hometowns honor their ancestors during the festival. They were impressed by how diverse Chinese culture is—not everyone pays tribute to their ancestors in the same way. In the Q&A section, students participated actively. Under a heated discussion, they asked creative and thought-provoking questions. After that came the highlight of the class: Qingming handcraft activities.
Among all the handcraft activities, the most intriguing one was the “twenty-four solar terms” lantern design, in which the students showed amazing imagination and collaged cute, amusing patterns on paper lanterns.
Some of the students did “clay paintings” according to different features of the twenty-four solar terms. Utilizing their rich imagination, the kids created their exquisite works that impressed the teachers greatly and brought excitement to everyone present. The P&B class was in a cheerful atmosphere.
Another activity ongoing was the “Qingming folding fan design.” The versatile students split into groups. After productive discussions, they planned, designed, and decorated a folding fan with Qingming-relating contents on it. Not only did these activities cultivate students’ interest in Chinese culture, but also they trained children’s teamwork skills. What a memorable day!
