Puxi Campus Grades 4&5: Safety I know
At the beginning of the new semester, the fourth and fifth graders on the Puxi campus ushered in an important lesson—safety education.
The 4th and 5th grade PG class started with a safety quiz, during which students discussed and reflected on safety issues in all aspects of life. Through this process, students gained a better understanding of safe solutions to specific situations.
After that, teachers shared relevant safety knowledge and tips with the students, emphasizing the importance of safety and to improve students’ safety awareness both inside and outside the classroom. For example, how to ensure safety on the school bus, the emergency safety rules, how to protect physical and mental health, etc. They then watched a cartoon that taught students how to better protect themselves outside of school. It provides specific context to show students how to reject strangers and how to judge strangers’ behaviors. These safety rules cover many aspects of on-campus and off-campus life, helping students to protect themselves and others.
Next, each student made a Safety A to Z poster by themselves. Each student received one letter of the alphabet and came up with a word or phrase related to safety that matched their letter. They then decorated the poster with appropriate pictures or instructions, emphasizing scenarios relevant to daily life. As you can see from the poster, R is for No Rushing in the Hallway; L is Nice Language with a list of nice language examples; E is Eat healthy, encouraging them to eat more fruits and vegetables and less junk food. In order to come up with ideas, students contemplated, discussed with the teacher, or collaborated with their deskmates. They all worked together to complete the safety education activity.
Safety is no small matter. Through this safety education activity, we hoped that the fourth and fifth graders would review the safety rules, pay attention to the importance of safety education, and improve their safety awareness.
