Grades 11-12: The Annual Law Lecture

March 1, 2021

On the afternoon of February 24th, the 11th and 12th grade students used their CAS class to listen to a lecture given by Mr. Zuo Qian on legal knowledge in the Grand Auditorium.

At the beginning of the lecture, the teacher shared a brief family tree of law. Then he introduced the four elements of a typical tort analysis: volitional act, damages, causation, and intention/negligence. Also, examples were used to deepen students’ knowledge of the law in different scenarios. Four Grade 11 students from the law course gave vivid examples of what counts as a volitional act and how causation analysis can puzzle people. Mr. Zuo also encouraged the students to use valuable skills learned at school to present superior evidence and argument should any dispute arise in their college life.

A Kahoot game was also played at the end of the introduction to reinforce the knowledge explained. The students tried out actively and the three winners received a warm round of applause from the audience. Through students' attentive listening and active participation, all of them enriched their basic knowledge of law. And the seniors were more prepared for their upcoming college life.
