Puxi Campus Grades 1-3: Lantern Festival Celebrations

March 1, 2021

The traditional Lantern Festival in China fell on February 26th this year. On Friday, Chinese teachers of G1 to G3 at the Puxi campus prepared some interesting and fun activities for all children to experience and enjoy.

Upon entering the hallway of the primary section building, students were immediately attracted by the bright red color. There were lots of beautiful red lanterns hanging along the hallway, featuring and highlighting the spirit of the Lantern Festival. Despite the raining outside, the students’ passion and excitement were not dampened at all. They all showed great enthusiasm!

In Chinese lessons, Chinese teachers introduced some traditions of the Lantern Festival to the students and guided them to experience the beauty of Chinese culture through fun learning experiences. G1 students made an exquisite lantern by themselves. They each held their own lantern, walking around to show and take photos. G2 students all dived into a world of riddles. They looked at the riddles very carefully and tried their best to solve them. G3 students watched a video and learned about the origins of the festival through vivid explanation from their teachers. Non-native Chinese classes all even gathered together in the cafeteria to learn how to make Tangyuan. Under the guidance of teachers, they soon picked up how to add the fillings and close the dough until the Tangyuan were smooth and round. This immersive experience allowed students to enjoy the various folk customs of this festival and also appreciate the profound beauty of traditional culture.

The Lantern Festival traditionally marks the end of Chinese New Year but also indicates the beginning of spring. We wish all students a bright future at the start of this season and hope they have a great term ahead!
