Grade 12: First-Aid Training Activity

On January 6th, two Grade 12 students, Elaine and Rebecca, co-organized a grade-wide first-aid activity during the CAS class.

After realizing the importance of first-aid at an AHA CPR training course, Elaine became determined to spread life-saving skills to her classmates at her school. According to Elaine, “Not a lot of people know that merely calling 120 is not enough, because the time wasted waiting for 120 could mean life or death. To realize her goal, she reached out to her friend Rebecca who enthusiastically helped her carry out the event. As responsible, dedicated, global citizens, SHSIDers enthusiastically signed up for the course.

After preparing materials such as manikins and coordinating the activity with helpful school faculty, they organized two “teacher-training classes” where they taught first-aid information to numerousGrade 12volunteers. After all the volunteer teachers became familiar with first-aid procedures, the official activity successfully took place during the CAS classes on January 6th.

During the CAS class, the volunteers went to their classes correspondingly to start their lectures. After an elaborate amount of study and review work, each "teacher" mastered the knowledge of first-aid. As they explained, the students listened, learned, and responded positively, raising questions they had. The students were encouraged to conduct CPR themselves while the teachers left plenty of time at the end of the lessons for Q&A. At the same time, each homeroom teacher also informed them of the location of the first-aid facilities such as AED, strengthening students' knowledge of the life-saving tools. When the activity came to an end, all students had a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the importance and procedures in first-aid.

For both the volunteers and the students, this first-aid training session was a particularly meaningful experience. Hopefully, this first-aid publicity will be able to equip students with the knowledge needed when confronting critical situations in the future.
