Grade 6: PBA Voting
In the second half of this semester, the topic of PBA (project-based assessment) for English S and S + levels in Grade 6 is Influential People. Students chose the person who, in their mind, has the greatest influence on themselves or the world to complete the PBA assignment by creating a Time magazine (cover & interview). After a month of serious research, editing, and designing, the final presentation is a well-made and concise version of Time magazine’s Influential People Edition. The cover of the magazine designed by the students themselves, is the iconic red outline frame of Time magazine, with close-up photos of the influential people. The inside pages of the magazine include a profile of the person and what he or she has done to influence the world. Students also need to design 5-7 interview questions and give answers from their person’s point of view. Students chose a variety of characters, from entertainment super stars to scientists, from politicians to sports stars, who are all inspiring role models.
During last Friday's English class, the magazines made by each student were displayed. Students went into different teachers’ classrooms, browsed the works of other students, and voted for the best in their minds. Voting should be based on design, content, structure, organization and creativity. Each teacher’s class & block has one winner per category.
