Puxi Campus Grades 4-5: Science Fair
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known. ——Carl Edward Sagan
On November 19, fourth and fifth grade from SHSID Puxi campus celebrated their annual science fair, demonstrating students’ enthusiasm for science and their spirit to explore the unknown.
Weeks ago, students started to form groups, selected their topics, and conducted research. Based on different interests, students worked in groups to carry out and polish their projects. During preparation, they considered many factors in order to make their presentations successful. For example, how could they connect the projects with our daily lives and the needs of society? How could they carry out the experiments to gain scientific results? How could they present the content in a clear, precise, and engaging way?
On Thursday afternoon, our little scientists wore lab coats, carried materials, and displayed posters to welcome visitors. There were more than 30 booths with topics covering physics, chemistry, biology, and psychology. From buoyancy analysis to batteries made from fruit, from making environmentally friendly materials to extracting DNA, from analyzing elephant toothpaste to appreciating magic slime, all the projects were fascinating. Mr. Liu, the middle and primary school principal, and Ms. Bao, the middle and primary school vice principal, also attended the science fair. They were very engaged in learning from the presenters and asked a lot of questions. Students also actively participated in the activities and earned stamps they could exchange for special prizes by answering the questions from each booth.
We also had student reporters at the science fair. Let’s take a look at what they showed us!
Although the science fair has ended, it promoted students’ curiosity about the world, encouraged students to think and reflect, and, more importantly, it helped students enjoy science and see the changes science can make. Today’s participants will be the change makers of the future. It is our sincere wish that our kids can cherish their curiosity and never stop their exploration and discovery.
