Grade 10: Lecture on Writing Impressive Essays
On November 11th, the whole 10thGrade class went to the Zhentao Lecture Hall to attended the lecture about the Sophomore Project.
In this lecture, Ms. Cui provided the students with writing suggestions on their Sophomore Project reflections, which also serve as an instruction to writing college application essays. She also shared certain excellent and improved writing pieces.
First of all, Ms. Cui affirmed the importance of writing impressive essays for universities and summer school applications, and emphasized the necessity of accurately expressing the applicants’ advantages. Ms. Cui emphasized the importance of logic while structuring the responses; equally important, students should demonstrate personal growth and individual thoughts throughout their high school self-development.
After that, the teacher enumerated three examples in the Sophomore Project, and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of some of the sample pieces. For instance, she emphasized that the writing should not sound overly repetitive; it should demonstrate the writer’s growth and humility throughout the growth process. And a proper tone also matters.
After the carefully prepared speech of Ms. Cui, the Grade 10 students gained a better understanding of writing and reflecting on their personal growth essays.
