Puxi Campus Grades 1-3: “Imagine, Invest, Inspire” Science Week
It was Science Week for our students at SHSID this week! We were all very excited to celebrate and embrace all the fun science can bring! As students work hard in their science curricula, they all continue to become passionate and curious about exploring the world around them. We had an action-packed week filled with lots of cool activities and experiments. Let’s see what our students got up to.
Our week started with various activities, such as using the scientific method to make predictions about magic growing capsules, watching videos of different quick science experiments and famous scientists, and even having a virtual museum tour.
Students also got a chance to have some hands-on activities to show their understanding of scientific concepts. Some demonstrated the life cycle of a butterfly with plates and pasta. Some competed against each other to see who could make the longest bridge from just a sheet of A3 paper when the bridge could only touch the ground in two places. Others even made fun crafts showing what a scientist does in their job.
Wednesday was the Science Fair! This was a chance for our students to use their own scientific knowledge to conduct experiments and present them to their peers. Many students thought of different scientific experiments to research, such as the effects of gravity on a tumbler, the science of a volcano eruption, and how pressure and water molecule can create a vacuum. The students started off by showing their projects to their class. They then got the opportunity to visit other classrooms to see everyone’s hard work. A lot of time and effort was put into these projects and our students all look very proud of their work!
In addition to these fun activities, Grade 3 students also took part in a fun dress-up day on Friday when the students dressed up as various plants and animals that represented the importance of life sciences.
All in all, it was a wonderful, educational week exploring the importance of science!
