Grade 10: Project SNAP

November 3, 2020

In the morning of Wednesday, October 28th, Ian Lu from 10(1) and Anna Yang from 10(5) gave a speech during the weekly Assembly to introduce Project SNAP, a project they made to help the “disadvantaged group”, to the 10th graders. In today’s world, racism, sexism, and discrimination towards LGBTQ+ groups are well-addressed issues where people are aware of them and understand the importance of respecting them. However, some other disadvantaged group are often ignored, and the problems they faced are rarely addressed. Here the disadvantaged people are people who are disadvantaged physically, mentally, or psychologically, and they are often discriminated against by ignorant people due to their disadvantages. Most people also formed inherently biased ideas towards them through insults such as “retards”, not realizing that such disadvantagedgroup actually exists in real life.

So, Ian and Anna formed Project SNAP to help these people and to promote their problems so that more people understand what, and who they are and what they’re going through. They’ve been to a lot of elders’ homes and asylums, and they are now working with a few to help these disadvantaged people. Now, they’re recruiting volunteers to join their project at school to help them. We hope they will achieve better results with help from their classmates.
