Grade 11: Skills for Time Management

November 3, 2020

In the blink of an eye, the students of SHSID is about to take their first midterm exam of the 2020 school year. For the juniors who are preparing for their university applications, the grades from this midterm are important. Recognizing the academic stress most 11th grade students are under, the school arranged many lectures on time management that offered advices to help students organize their time more effectively.

Before the Assembly began on October 29th, the auditorium in Xianmian Annex was filled with juniors. Soon afterwards, Ms. Yu started the event and invited Max Chen from Class 7 to make a speech on time management. He started off by saying that students should draw up a clear schedule and adhere to it as closely as they can. The distractions the internet and social media might create are causing students to be less efficient with their time, so in order to avoid these controllable distractions, Max advised the students to turn off their electronic devices when they start studying. He also gave the advice that when you are handed a new assignment, you set a completion date before the deadline to prevent procrastination. At the end of his speech, Max used astonishing figures to remind everyone the amount of time they have left and that they should spend it wisely.

In P&B on the following day, Peer Advisors went into every homeroom and also added some of their own advice on time management, such as when you are setting a goal, make sure it is realistic and achievable. Presenters also emphasized on the importance of starting large projects or reviewing important exams early to avoid cramming late at night.

Through these lectures on time management, 11th Grade students are more informed about the methods that work well for their peers.
