Middle School Biology Department: 8th Grader's Controlled Bacteria Growth Experiment

Recently in the 8th Grade, an experiment attempting to control bacteria growth was carried out in the lab building. The students used sterilized agar plates and inoculated them with bacteria collected from their hands. Then, they applied different brands of disinfectant to the plate in order to test which one prevented the growth of bacteria the best.The studentsgot the results on October 30th. The results showed that these disinfectants were not equally effective against certain bacteria. This hands-on experimentalso helped the students realize the importance of washing hands frequently as bacteria is found everywhere.
