High School History Department: Professional Development

October 22, 2020

High School history and geography teachers met in the history room of Zhengtao Building on October 16th for professional development.

Firstly, Ms. Li Yunuo, the head of the department, gave a short introduction regarding homework checks, midterm examination expectations, and tasks of Blackboard case writing and class recording. Next, Mr. Aaron Ingham, deputy chief of the department, detailed the requirements for exam proofreading. Then the teachers were divided into groups based on different grades and levels to discuss their midterm examinations, units, and class activities. Later, Mr. Sven Serrano gave a lecture about the history of SHS to all the Middle and High School history and geography teachers in the Lecture Hall. The lecture focused on the period of World War II when Lunghwa Camp was built and run on campus. He then led the teachers on a campus tour which aimed to look for the traces of the past. Teachers were told the stories behind the teaching buildings, cafeterias, and auditorium. Although the buildings evolved over time, they still tried to find the hidden messages based on the old historical images and maps. This tour might be one of the best ways to celebrate the 150thanniversary of SHS.
