Grade 10: The Beauty of PE
On October 14th, around 40 students from Grade 10 listened to a speech in the Lecture Hall of Zhentao Building, made by Mr. Ahrens, the manager of a soccer organization designed to providing young children with access to sports education. Especially after the 3-month-long lockdown due to the pandemic, it is crucial for students to focus on their physical education as well as their academic education.
Mr. Ahrens, after asking about students' favorite sports and sharing with them some of his own experiences with sports, summarized the benefits of sports into several categories: social, emotional, physical, psychological… He pointed out that these benefits, such as meeting new friends, gaining satisfaction, getting stronger, and being able to deal with tight situations will benefit those who do sports in the long term. However, there are still children, Mr. Ahrens mentioned, that do not have access to formal sports education. Some children of migrant workers in Shanghai, for example, usually do not have such access due to their schools' being underfunded.
Mr. Ahrens made all of the students more aware of the importance of sports, and just how lucky they are, that they can have access to so many opportunities to sports training.
