Puxi Campus Grades 4&5: Sports Week

October 15, 2020

Oct. 12th to Oct. 14th is SHSID Sports Week. In the past four days, students participated in various activities, learned related knowledge, and cultivate positive spirit. Based on the dress code of each day, students and teachers put on baseball caps, wore sports socks, and put on their favorite sports star outfits. It created a lively and energetic atmosphere on campus.

In PE class on Monday, fifth grade invited the PE teachers to give lectures to the students. The topics were “Team Sports” and “Are Athletes Born or Built? - Nature vs Nurture”. Students realized that teamwork in sports events can cultivate their own sense of responsibility and self-discipline, and they can also learn sportsmanship. When asked which factor, nature or nurture, is more important, the students pondered and gave different answers. For the fourth grade PE class, teachers prepared various sport activities for students. The activities varied from jumping activities such as “Ships and Sailors” and “Jump Across the River” to more peaceful activities such as “Toss and Catch” and “Yoga”. Each child had the chance to choose what they preferred and enjoy the various sports.

On Tuesday afternoon, the students went to the primary section auditorium to participate in a basketball knowledge lecture hosted by members of the Yao Ming Basketball Club. The lecture involved many professionals with great knowledge of basketball, including the history of Chinese basketball and world basketball, the four types of world basketball, an introduction to famous Chinese and foreign basketball players, and the various rules of basketball. Every student benefited a lot. After the Q&A session, the host also invited many student volunteers to show some professional basketball moves.

Wednesday’s theme was “Teamwork”. Each class of grade four had one activity that required cooperation and collaboration such as “Human Knot”, “Egg Toss Relay,” “Three Legged Race” and so on. Fifth grade students played tug-of-war. Classes competed with each other and the winners competed against each other again and again until there was a final winning group. All the little tug-of-war players put on their gloves, stood in their positions, and tried their best to win honor for their class. In the end, class 5 (4) was the tug-of-war champion. Students worked as a team and built class spirit through the activities.

The personal growth class on Thursday was a time for thematic presentations carefully prepared by the students through group work. The students were divided into groups of three to five. They chose between two topics: my favorite sports stars or a unique sport, and they also actively interacted with the audience. Our students also put on their favorite athlete’s outfit and took pictures with their friends in front of the board. The sports week ended successfully with kids’ laughter and smiles.

Last but not least, many thanks to all the teachers for their meticulous preparation and hard work in the past few weeks that provide children a safe, happy and meaningful Sports Week!
