Puxi Campus Grades 1-3: Giving our all to the sports meet

On the afternoon of October 13th, the opening ceremony of the sports meet officially began after the arrival of each class. Olivia Wu, the student athlete representative, shared her experience of friendship and honor in swimming as a young athlete. Ms. Zhang, the director of grades one to three, also addressed everyone. She listed many benefits of sports and emphasized the importance of team sports programs for students’ personal development and cooperative development. We are also lucky to be visited by Ms. Zhu Yunying, a former member of the Chinese National Women’s Volleyball Team, who delivered a speech. Ms. Zhu hopes that students can not only fight hard on the field, but can also carry forward the spirit of Chinese Volleyball in life, be firm in their goals, and never give up.

After the wonderful speeches by the guests, the students performed their martial arts exercises. With the crisp and loud “ho ha!”, the vitality of the children was vividly displayed through firm and wonderful moves. After the children’s performance, the Chinese and foreign teachers from grades one to three also wore heroic capes and danced to music. The children’s display and the teachers’ performance won everyone’s cheers. At this time, Mr. Liu Lian, the principal of the middle and primary school, officially announced that the sports meet began, and various wonderful events officially start.

The school designed a variety of events for sports meet. Led by their homeroom teachers, the children went from one event to another in an orderly manner. Among them, there were team events that tested cooperative ability and tacit understanding skills, such as an obstacle relay race, an accurate relay, etc. There were also individual events such as the 50-meter race to show personal style and skill. Whether they were in team or individual events, the children were all dedicated and challenged themselves from start to finish while encouraging one another along the way. The teachers, students, and parents on the field were all enthusiastic and excited as they cheered for the athletes! In addition, the parent-child event, the Super Wheeler, was set up in the sports meet. Children rushed to the end with their parents at the same pace, side by side. As soon as the whistle sounded, some pairs were fast but the pace was slightly uneven so they had to stop and adjust their posture; others moved smoothly even though they were not fast. Children and parents worked together and finally completed the race. At last, the sports meet came to a close with everyone laughing.

In this sports meet, every child was motivated to compete, give their best efforts, to embrace the spirit of sports, and to demonstrate their perseverance. Although the exciting games are over, a love of sports has now become deeply rooted in the heart of every child. We hope that in the future, every child can continue to do lots of physical exercise, strengthen the body, and hone the will to become a well-rounded world citizen with excellent physical quality and dedication.

Puxi Campus Grades 4-5:Enjoy Sports, Enjoy Life

On October 13th, students from grades four to five welcomed their Sports Meet with great enthusiasm and energy.

At 8:30 a.m., students from every class marched to the playground. Each class presented one sport in their respective performances, including basketball, soccer, biking, rock climbing, bowling, etc. During the one-minute performances, students showed good spirits and excellent teamwork by using props and shouting the slogan of their own classes.

After all classes arrived on the playground, the student athlete representative, Norman from class 4 (2) class, gave a speech on sportsmanship based on his own experience of playing basketball and tennis. Then Director Zhu of grades 4-5 delivered the opening speech. She elaborated on the meaning of sports for us. Partaking in sports can not only strengthen the body, but also cultivate the perseverance of personal spirit and the spirit of solidarity and cooperation.

After that, all the little athletes performed martial arts. With powerful movements and loud slogans, the performance looked like real martial arts. Finally came the teachers’ dance performance. The dance was full of energy and earned loud cheers from the students as it showed another side of our teachers. After the dance ended, Principal Liu Lian announced amid a warm atmosphere the official start of the games.

All of the students in fourth and fifth grade participated in the sports games. There were many kinds of interesting collective, individual, challenge, and relay events. Each student was expected to fully demonstrate their skills, enjoy the games, and cultivate a sense of optimism and collective honor. Collective events included the obstacle relay and hula hoop relay. Students, teachers, and parents all participated in the hula hoop relay. They worked as a team and bonded together. The individual events were the 50-meter sprint, toss and catch, and standing long jump. Challenge projects were Switcheroo and Splat the Rat, and the last event was an 8×50 meters relay race.

Every student did their best in the competitions, carrying forward the spirit of courage while not being afraid of suffering or exhaustion. The cheers on the field never stopped. To be fair and equitable, the referees were also very serious in their timing and recording of points during the games. The final 8×50m relay race was the climax of the sports meeting. After fierce competition, the Sports Meet culminated in the cheers.

After this wonderful performance ended, it was time for the most exciting part of the Sports Meet—track and field competitions. The students competed in races such as the 30-meter dash and the 50-meter dash, in both of which students competed against each other while representing their individual classes. Excitement spread through the audience as they roared for victory and yelled supportively for their classmates. Apart from running, there were fun events like Long Jump, Basketball Toss, and Kangaroo Jump.

Through the passionate cheers came the highlight of the Sports Meet: the relay race. The athletes put all their efforts into sprinting forward. Although it’s impossible for everyone to be the winner, the students truly enjoyed the moment when all the classmates cheered for them. Moreover, they felt a sense of belonging when they heard the enthusiastic cheering slogans made up by their teachers and classmates.

The Sports Meet ended with an exhilarating atmosphere. All the students at Pudong campus became winners when they made great efforts and learned sportsmanship.

Sports events at SHSID Middle and Primary School celebrate involvement and improve students’ mental and physical toughness. By competition and cooperation, students learn the importance of dedication and develop a sense of friendliness and sportsmanship. It is our hope that students can learn from their athletic endeavors that lead them to be successful at whatever they choose to pursue in life.
