Grade 9: Introduction to the Writing Center
On Tuesday, September 29, 9th graders had their third Assembly in the Lecture Hall of Zhentao Building. Today’s Assembly introduced the Writing Center: where it is and how it works. Mr. Brian told the 9th graders of the Writing Center; prior to this, few had any knowledge of the place.
As Mr. Brian said, the Writing Center is more like “a second pair of eyes” for students. Whereas subject teachers may be busy grading classwork, the teachers of the Writing Center have more time and thus can be more dedicated to reading over essays. Students could schedule meetings with the Writing Center and discuss any English matters they wish to improve be them grammar-based or content-based. Most importantly, they can discuss with the teachers their writing which need not be essays; they may be creative writing works as well. Furthermore, students could also choose to drop off their essays in the basket at the Writing Center. The next day, when they come to take the essay, they will find it edited and commented on by the teachers. The advice will be mainly centered around grammar, vocabulary, content, and structure—all fundamental to having better writing.
The Writing Center is located in the Xianmian Library, and Mr. Brian will be there most of the time. Students are welcomed to go to the Writing Center often and actively improve their writing skills.
