Middle School Biology Department：Eighth Graders Create Taxonomic Keys

On the morning of September 18th, some eighth graders went to the lab to complete aninteresting experiment about taxonomic keys.These keysconsist of a series of contrasting or contradictory statements or propositions requiring the identifier to make comparisons and decisions based on statements in the keysas related to the material to be identified. For this experiment, students were required to create their own taxonomic keys by observingdifferentspecimens. They fulfilled the task by careful observation. In their recent biology classes, eighth gradershavelearned about modern classification of organisms, binomial nomenclature, and the eight levels of taxonomy. This experiment helpedthem to consolidate the knowledge they learned and to better understand the application of taxonomic keys in daily life.
