Grade 9: PBL Course Introduction
The freshmen gathered in the Xianmian Annex on the afternoon of September 14th and listened to a lecture introducing the project-based learning (PBL) courses – a new concept for the new high schoolers. At the beginning of the event, Mr. Liao Hui introduced what PBL was, including the course’s content, objectives, grading system, etc. Later, subject teachers were invited onto the stage to give a brief explanation of the PBL courses they were to teach, like Math Modeling and Contest Preparation, Chemistry and Art, Academic Debating, and many, many more.
As a course only available for high schoolers, the freshmen were all very curious about PBL. As discussed during the lecture, PBL courses not only provide students with more knowledge like French, investment, and music production, but also cultivate skills that would become immensely important in the future like team cooperation, independent learning, and leadership. Simultaneously, students enjoy the delights of a new subject and explore their passions further. Although additional courses would require more time and energy with inevitable obstacles and hardships to overcome, PBL courses would bring students a brand new experience and priceless skills that would benefit them for years to come.
