Puxi Campus Grade 3: Character and Moral Education—Fairness

September 17, 2020

This week, the third graders had a lively and interesting Character and Moral Education lesson exploring the topic of fairness. Fairness is a serious and useful concept that is also very prominent in the students’ daily lives. Grade three students had already developed a general understanding of fairness, but were able to work together to further explore it. After a brief discussion about what fairness is and talking about daily life examples, students were able to realize that fairness is about having the same opportunities and receiving what each person needs instead of always getting the exact same things as another person. Then students did a quick activity in which teachers presented some common fair and unfair situations. Students worked together to judge if each scene was fair or not fair then glued the cards to the correct fair or unfair column. Since these situations are very common in daily school life, students not only felt very familiar with them, but were also able to easily develop clear understanding. We believe and hope that after discussing such a serious and relatable topic, students now have a deeper understanding of fairness that will help them greatly in their future endeavors and their future friendships.
